Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri has a new second-in-command, as Justin Osofsky, vice president of global operations at parent company Facebook, is assuming the role of chief operating officer of the photo- and video-sharing network.
The Instagram COO role has been vacant since former Facebook vice president of global public policy Marne Levine left the position last September to return to the parent company as vp of global partnerships and business development.
Osofsky had been in his role at Facebook for seven years, including oversight of media partnerships. He has been with the company since June 2008.
Mosseri revealed the move in an Instagram post, along with news of another hire and a promotion.
He said of Osofsky, “Justin brings this expertise to the table, having run global operations at Facebook for the past seven years (including supporting the Instagram community); leading media partnerships (also helping to build the Instagram partnerships team); and growing his org from several hundred to thousands of people around the world.”
Gedioen Aloula joined Instagram as head of marketing. He had been global head of marketing at HP. Prior to that, he served as vp and head of U.S. consumer marketing at Visa, with work on the Olympic Games and the World Cup among his highlights there.
Mosseri wrote, “As our new head of marketing, Gedioen is an experienced brand marketer who will bring new perspectives to Instagram … Gedioen’s experience building creative global campaigns and his strong understanding of what makes the Instagram brand special will be a huge asset as we continue sharing with the world the joy and value of Instagram.”
And Tamar Shapiro was promoted from head of analytics for Instagram’s sharing experiences organization to head of analytics.
Mosseri wrote, “Tamar is a proven leader, having managed large analytics teams at both Foursquare and American Express before she joined Instagram. She has done amazing work since joining, not only for the analytics and data engineering organizations, but also for the New York office. I’m thrilled to have a strong leader in New York with Instagram experience join the executive team.”
