Facebook Wants a Place on Your Set-Top Box

Facebook is reportedly working on an application for set-top boxes, aimed at delivering longer-form video content, likely accompanied by video ads.

Deepa Seetharaman and Jack Marshall of The Wall Street Journal cited sources with knowledge of the project, reporting that the app is aimed at bringing long-form, premium content from media companies to set-top boxes and, by extension, television sets.

The app being developed will deliver video content exclusively, Seetharaman and Marshall reported, unlike other set-top apps the social network has developed with platforms including Roku.

Facebook announced a change to its News Feed algorithm last week, giving more weight to what percentage of a video is watched by users, with an eye toward ensuring that longer videos are not penalized.
