Facebook Is Pulling the Plug on Group Stories

The feature will no longer be available as of Sept. 26

Say goodbye to group Stories Facebook

While Facebook is clearly bullish on Stories, not every idea the social network explored has succeeded.

Facebook initially said in November 2017 that it would extend Stories to groups, and the social network rolled out group Stories globally last December.

However, group Stories will be no more as of Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. PT/noon ET.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the demise of the feature, saying in a statement, “We’re sunsetting group Stories because we want to make sure that features in groups enable people to connect in fun and useful ways, and we’re always looking at ways to improve the overall experience for communities on Facebook.”

All existing group Stories will be deleted, and people will not be able to create new ones.

Group Stories had lightweight Reactions that enabled group members to respond to Stories with “emojis from a range of universal human emotions,” a Facebook spokesperson said when the feature officially debuted in December 2018, as well as tools for group administrators to approve or delete group members’ Stories, mute members or only allow admins to post and contribute to group Stories.
