Facebook Birthday Stories Are Rolling Out Globally

Music stickers can be added to them

Posting birthday wishes on the Timelines of friends and family? That’s so earlier this week.

Facebook is rolling out birthday Stories worldwide Thursday, enabling people to add photos, videos and digital birthday cards to their well wishes, which are then added to the subject’s birthday Story.

Product manager Jehan Damji said in a Newsroom post that 500 million people are using Stories on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp every day.

To create a birthday Story, tap on the birthday notification from Facebook and then either shoot or upload a photo or video or use one of the social network’s birthday cards. Music stickers can be added, as well. When completed, birthday wishes are added to that person’s birthday Story.

Damji wrote, “The result is a happy birthday message that’s visual, memorable, interactive and fun—it’s like getting a personalized birthday card from everyone you care about, no matter where they are in the world.”

Facebook is celebrating the debut of birthday Stories by teaming up with bakeries across the U.S. to give away free treats Friday, May 10, as well as turning New York bakery Flour Shop into Birthday Stories Bakery From Facebook for the day. Further details are available here.
