Independent cross promotion networks like Applifier and AppStrip have played a key role in helping social games grow and maintain their user base over the past year. Digital Chocolate is now also entering the space with the launch of VIP Games Network, their new cross promotion tool with high quality partners. More after the jump.

Finding quality players for games isn’t easy. For this reason Digital Chocolate is partnering with developers whom it finds to meet a certain threshold in order to drive high quality retention installs and click-thru rates. It’s system is powered by an analytics tool that optimizes and serves ads based on factors such as user demographics and play habits.

“The VIP Bar showcases the highest quality games for Facebook users and also drives extremely efficient cross promotion for publishers,” said Jason Loia, COO of Digital Chocolate. “We are proud to partner with other top publishers and attract, retain, and grow the highest quality network of game players on Facebook.”

AppStrip, which recently sold to Tapjoy, validated the stretching need for independent cross promotions especially in a tarnished viral environment. AppStrip and Applifier, which we covered back in September, have the same exchange model. Games send a user out and automatically get one back from the network for free, or in actuality, get 0.9 clicks back for every 1 they send out and sell the rest. The only issue is this exchange model is hard to defend if say a competitor was to enter and market with cheaper prices. Digital Chocolate will choose to differ by doing a straight 1 to 1 exchange, as opposed to selling since it has its own range of games that are helping grow its revenue tremendously.

It remains to be seen how many users Digital Chocolate’s network can attract. Applifier is clearly in the lead with over 55 MMAUs and are creating over 300M connections each month to their Amazon cloud – a very cost intensive operation to maintain. WIth some of the top 20 game publishers on Facebook such as Cie Games, ZipZapPlay and Funzio, the VIP Games Network aims to topple competition with a user base of over 65 MMAUs. Digital Chocolate wil be selective about which games it lets into its network
