Mobile game publisher Chillingo has announced the launch of Fightback on iOS devices. The mobile fighting game sees players going after thugs who have kidnapped their sister, using gesture-based controls to punch and kick anything in their way.

Developed by DMC: Devil May Cry and Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory, Fightback resembles classic arcade fighting games like Final Fight or Double Dragon. The game’s side-scrolling setup sees enemies approaching our hero from either side of the screen, and players tapping as quickly as they can to attack them.

The faster players tap, the faster punches are thrown, while swiping on the screen causes the player to kick in the same direction as the swipe. By combining these swipes and taps, players can launch enemies into the air and defeat them before they ever reach the ground.

Each stage has a target score and time-to-beat, and players are awarded stars and cash relative to their performance in each. Levels can be replayed to earn more money and stars, and players earn experience points for each completed level. Money can be spent on power upgrades, body armor and even new tattoos for the player, along with weapons including dual pistols, shotguns and bazookas.

Fightback includes over 100 floors to clear at launch, along with an Endless mode that challenges players to take on waves of enemies for as long as they can. The game offers Facebook connect for bonus premium currency, as well as sharing progress with friends.

Fightback is now available to download for free on iOS. Check back soon to follow the game on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
