5 Fun Apps for Family and Friends on the 4th of July

The Fourth of July is a day of celebration with family and friends. With that said, it is hard for me to imagine the necessity of having a 4th of July app for my mobile device. Instead, I visualize being outside by the pool or in the park playing volleyball, badminton or croquet. I don’t see myself playing on an app with my device. Still, I did find some apps that, if push comes to shove, I’d be obliged to use them.

They are not necessarily games, but more as tools to help with the Fourth of July celebrations.

Handmarks Fireworks

It is actually a fun app where you can set off numerous rockets at once by simply touching the screen of your mobile device to explode the fireworks. Fountain-style fireworks go off in many different colors. You can choose a photo as a background or use one of four preprogrammed images, grab some music and have some fun. You use your fingers to swipe the fireworks or manipulate them and be captivated as you create your own firework show.

Fourth of July Quiz

You can learn and even use your knowledge about the 50 states with the Fourth of July Quiz iPhone app. Test yourself, your family and your friends with three exclusive quizzes, testing the users knowledge of the U.S. With a total of 50 questions, somebody will eventually know the answer or at least learn something new about America.

Historical Documents

Now, this is truly an educational app, using the original documents. The app shows the Declaration for Independence as both the image of the document and text itself. You will find notes about the Declaration with details about the signers. Sure, we celebrate with food, drinks, good company and fireworks, but let’s not forget our forefathers, who fought for our freedom and democracy. If you really like what you learn from the documents, you can also check out the companion app on the Constitution.

Fourth of July Recipes

You might as well have an app offering 4th of July Recipes. If you are doing some last minute shopping for the big celebration, whip out your smartphone and check out the patriotic recipes. You can pick out any style for your holiday meal with over 200 recipes that include red, white and blue pie, All-American baby back ribs, For-The-Glory pie, Midwestern potato salad, Texas-Style barbecued chicken Legs and more. The app also includes a data base of nearly 30,000 food and drink recipes.

Fireworks Arcade

The free app is a little different than the Handmarks Fireworks app. Here you have a universal fireworks game app. The kids and adults will both take to this in the spirit of the 4th of July. You can use this as a simple relaxing fireworks creation app, watch the “show”, or get competitive with Game Center. And if you have Apple’s iPad 2 HDMI adapter, you can even display these fireworks on your 50″ TV for all to admire. Ooooh…Ahhhh! Nothing like seeing a little bit of the real thing before you set off your own fireworks.

Whatever you choose to do for the Fourth of July whether it is to just have fun with its traditional activities like swimming, outdoor games and barbeques or playing around with your mobile device, remember to have fun and havea safe celebration.
