Verizon and Deloitte are bringing 5G service to brick-and-mortar retail with a new platform that promises to provide near real-time monitoring and analytics on everything from inventory stocking to cashier-less checkouts.
The system combines Verizon Business’ wireless and mobile edge computing tech with Deloitte’s retail logistics software and will eventually cover a variety of use cases including quick replacement of out-of-stock items, customer-specific promotions and employee productivity, according to Verizon. The rollout is part of a broader recent partnership between the carrier and the consultancy that aims to develop 5G-powered enterprise software across several different industries.
