Instacart reached into Facebook’s upper ranks in shopping for a new CEO, tapping longtime veteran Fidji Simo, who had been head of the social network’s flagship application.

Simo will assume her new role Aug. 2, and founder and current CEO Apoorva Mehta will transition to executive chairman of the grocery delivery service’s board of directors.

Simo joined Instacart’s board of directors in January after being recruited by Mehta.

Mehta founded Instacart in June 2012 after he spent two years working on Amazon’s fulfillment engine.
