Colgate-Palmolive's Softsoap Debuts Hand Soap Made From Tablets

The new product is all about sustainability

As shoppers continue to buy eco-friendly household staples, companies are designing more products to meet the demand.

The latest offering comes from Colgate-Palmolive’s Softsoap. Beginning today, the brand is introducing a reusable aluminum bottle and hand soap made from tablets. One tablet, which is sold in packs of three, produces one bottle of soap. All customers need to do is add water.

Together, the bottle and tablets reduce plastic waste caused by conventional soap bottles. If everyone who purchased a traditional plastic hand soap pump bottle in 2020 switched to Softsoap’s new aluminum bottle and foaming tablets, the change would save more than 150 million plastic pump bottles from entering landfills, according to Colgate-Palmolive.

Emily Fong Mitchell, general manager of personal care for North America at Colgate-Palmolive, explained that unlike refillable jugs of hand soap, which can be bulky and heavy, the tablets are both easy to use and store.
