Unilever’s chief executive Alan Jope has announced his intention to retire from the company at the end of next year after five years in the role.
The former marketing executive at cosmetics firm Helene Curtis has been working within the multination conglomerate since 1985—and succeeded Paul Polman in running the business in 2019.
During that time, he has continued the focus around driving improved sustainability from across its brands, which include Dove, Domestos, Ben & Jerry’s and Cif.
Jope said that, after 35 years in the business, now was “the right time” for the board to begin to search for his successor.
