Tiffany R. Warren Leaving Omnicom for Role at Sony Music Group

Holding company’s chief diversity officer joined in 2009

Tiffany R. Warren, svp and chief diversity officer of Omnicom Group, announced that she is stepping down from the role and joining Sony Music Group. In addition to her role at Omnicom, she is the founder of Adcolor, a successful annual multicultural event, education and awards program. 

“Over a decade ago, Tiffany joined Omnicom in a newly established role that was one of the first in our industry, and since that time, she has demonstrated an unwavering passion and dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion that has underpinned our own core values,” said John Wren, chairman and CEO of Omnicom Group.

Warren joined Omnicom in January 2009 and is considered one of DEI’s standard-bearers in the advertising community. According to Wren, Warren was responsible for making “notable gains in recruiting, retaining and developing a diverse workforce across the group and have accelerated our momentum in doing more to advance systemic equity.”

“Goodbyes are hard when you love what you are leaving, but it is time,” said Warren. “Through the innovative work of the remarkable members of the OPEN Leadership Team, Omnicom is strongly positioned to continue leading and innovating in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion.” OPEN refers to the Omnicom People Engagement Network, the holding company’s umbrella group for its engagement groups and activities, including “diversity champions” through the company.

Warren arrived at Omnicom at a time when the advertising industry was in the midst of a reckoning about its lack of diversity and inclusion. At the time, what was termed the Madison Avenue Project, sought to compel agencies to end decades of bias against Black agency employees and prospective talent.

Last year, Warren worked with Adweek on its Champions award, honoring leaders and rising stars that illustrate the most compelling examples of influencing inclusion and diversity in marketing, advertising, media, tech and entertainment.

Earlier this year, 600 & Rising co-founder Nathan Young publicly criticized Warren and Adcolor on Twitter, saying that the event was “completely divorced from reality.” Responses to Young, formerly a strategist at Minneapolis agency Periscope, varied, though many rallied to defend Warren and Adcolor. The fallout resulted in Young leaving 600 & Rising as president. 

Before joining Omnicom, Warren worked in account management roles at agencies Hill Holliday and Arnold before becoming manager of diversity programs for the 4A’s and then rejoining Arnold as vp, director of multicultural programs and community outreach.
