It’s been a rough year for romance.

On top of all the canceled weddings of 2020, in-person dating was impossible for most of the year. And while dating apps did their best to foster virtual connections amid lockdown, hesitant daters made the wedding industry a bit nervous. It’s that sentiment that inspired Match’s latest spot, a musical number starring a dozen out-of-work wedding singers serenading the dating public—begging them to please, for the love of all things matrimonial, go meet somebody.

To pen the lyrics of the original new tune, Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort recruited Benj Pasek and Justin Paul—the Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning songwriters behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen.
