Brand Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II Ring Hollow With Brits

Research from YouGov found that over half of people felt the messages were for PR value alone

Brand messages paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her death are ringing hollow with the British public, according to research released by YouGov.

Following the announcement of the demise of the 96-year-old monarch on Thursday September 8, the longest serving in history, companies such as Dominos, Play Mobil, Stella Artois, Thomas Cook—and even the British Kebab Awards—quickly released adverts and social media tributes to her reign.

According to YouGov, over half (58%) of Britons said that those messages were driven by PR rather than to sincerely pay respect, with less than a third (28%) feeling the messages came from the heart.

The data also showed that over two-thirds of Britons (69%) had seen messages of condolence sent by a brand, with only 17% saying they had not.
