Manchester United Striker Fined £15,000 For Homophobic Tweet
The Manchester striker Federico Macheda has been fined £15,000 ($24,000) for admitting to tweeting a homophobic slur.
This is the latest in a series of fines – many of which have been slapped on sports figures – for inappropriate tweeting.
Macheda was charged with getting involved in an argument with a member of the public on Twitter last month, ending up tweeting the following:
“Shhhhhh u little stupid gay!”
The Guardian reports that the Football Association explained Macheda’s large fine:
“Federico Macheda has been fined £15,000 and warned as to his future conduct after the Manchester United player admitted use of an abusive and/or insulting word including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation.
