Twitter Gets a Site Refresh Too

It is definitely the season of site redesign. Aside from Facebook and FriendFeed, Twitter has also went ahead and rolled out some new cosmetic changes to the Twitter homepage. But unlike Facebook and FriendFeed, the Twitter blog was quick to point out that they are not introducing any new feature except a minor one.

So, what’s in store for all us, Twitter fans? If you check out Twitter right now, the first thing you’d notice is definitely the absence of the tabs (which gives you quick access to your updates, updates of the people you are following) at the top of the Twitter Public Timeline. Those tabs are now placed at the right sidebar. This is in preparation for more tab features which the Twitter crew are planning to launch in the future.

The “Following”, “Follower” and “Updates” link are moved on top of the sidebar and was compressed in a single line right below your Twitter profile picture.

Other changes in the new Twitter homepage includes: the use of AJAX for refreshing Home and Replies, mouse-over function on an update to access the “reply” and “favorite” links, and other housekeeping/spring cleaning tweaks that make the whole Twitter home page simpler and less cluttered.

Now for the new feature, which is kind of related to our previous post on TwitterGallery, Twitter has expanded the functionality of the Twitter design customizer giving us more color customization feature as well as some new themes. All for the sake of making our Twitter homepage as pleasing to the eyes as possible.
