Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve certainly heard the words “metaverse” and the new brand name Meta this week.
Let’s define them in their simplest terms. Is Facebook now known as Meta? No, but the parent company is—aka Meta owns Facebook like how Alphabet owns Google.
The metaverse can best be described as the successor to today’s mobile internet, or Web 3.0. The Web 1.0 was essentially a data collection portal with static pages and a primarily read-only setup.
