Politico Europe Names Jamil Anderlini Its New Editor in Chief

Jamil Anderlini has been named the next editor in chief of Politico Europe, a joint venture launched by Politico and Axel Springer in 2015 that is headquartered in Brussels and has offices in London, Berlin and Paris. Anderlini will assume the position this fall, where he will replace the acting editor in chief John Harris, who took over the position in March following the untimely death of Stephen Brown. In his role, Anderlini will guide the coverage of the publication, its editorial strategy and the operations of its 100-person European newsroom. “I feel a great sense of excitement to be working with this team of exceptionally talented journalists and am thrilled by the opportunity with them to help this publication grow,” Anderlini said in a statement. Politico Europe, Profitable for the Second Year, Aims to Grow Ad Revenue by 10% With New Studio The new editor in chief takes the reins of a publication that delivered double-digit growth year over year and was profitable within its first four years. The publication has recently expanded into France, launching a new bureau in the country as well as its Playbook Paris. Politico Europe also recently debuted new China-EU products and has invested in Politico Pro, its enterprise subscription offering. Prior to joining Politico Europe, Anderlini spent six years as the Asia editor, assistant editor and member of the Editorial Board, where he oversaw the publication’s editorial coverage and strategy. Anderlini, who is fluent in Mandarin, previously held roles as the Beijing bureau chief for the Financial Times, the Beijing correspondent for the South China Morning Post and the chief editor of the China Economic Review. Its flagship product, Politico Playbook, reaches over 350,000 readers and generates over $10 million per year in revenue. In 2020, Politico generated roughly $160 million in revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal.
