Pinterest Story Pins Renamed Idea Pins, Made More Widely Available

They will also be shown in the Today tab, search and atop creators' profiles

Story Pins are now Idea Pins

Pinterest introduced Story Pins in beta last September and, starting Tuesday, the feature—renamed Idea Pins—is available to all creators with Pinterest business accounts in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.

The renamed feature’s basic functionality is the same. Idea Pins allow content creators to share multiple videos, photos and more in a single post. Unlike “Story” content in apps like Instagram, Idea Pins will not automatically disappear after 24 hours.

Idea Pins have been updated since the feature’s initial debut in September 2020, giving creators access to new tools and customization options. The current suite of Idea Pins features includes:

  • Video recording and editing tools for up to 20 pages in a single Story Pin
  • Voiceover recording
  • A music tool for adding music to pages
  • Ghost mode tool
  • Detail pages for Story Pins that feature instructions or ingredients
  • Tagging, stickers and other interactive elements
  • Draft saving
  • Export tools for sharing content outside of Pinterest
  • Topic tagging
  • Pinterest’s Creator Code

Idea Pins will now be shown to all users in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S. in a new section at the top of their home feed. To increase discoverability, Idea Pins will also be shown on Pinterest’s Today tab, search screen and at the top of a creator’s profile.

Pinterest said it has seen “nine times the average comment rate on Idea Pins compared to standard Pins” in the past month. The idea-sharing social network said the number of Idea Pins created on a daily basis has increased by almost four times since January.

Evan Sharp, co-founder and chief design and creative officer at Pinterest, said in a statement, “We believe the best inspiration comes from people who are fueled by their passions and want to bring positivity and creativity into the world. On Pinterest, anyone can inspire. From creators to hobbyists to publishers, Pinterest is a place where anyone can publish great ideas and discover inspiring content. We have creators with extraordinary ideas on Pinterest and, with Idea Pins, creators are empowered to share their passions and inspire their audiences. By helping people on Pinterest spark creativity, try new things, build confidence and be themselves, we believe creators are truly helping with our mission of bringing inspiration to create a life you love.”
