Yelp Predicts 2020 Trends in Food, Beauty and Wellness

The platform had over 28 million new reviews in 2019

Business directory and review source Yelp shared its 2020 trend reports in the areas of food, beauty and wellness.

There were over 28 million new reviews on Yelp over the course of 2019.

Yelp trend expert Tara Lewis said on food, “On Yelp, we’re seeing people appreciate international and Asian dishes and flavors, from ube (mentions up 10% in 2019 versus 2018) to Japanese souffle pancakes (156%) to exotic desserts like taiyaki ice cream (28%). Where last year, we saw healthy and mindful eating options like the Impossible Burger take center stage, this year, Yelpers are searching for vibrant, colorful dishes to put on their plates.”

Review mentions for hard kombucha soared 377% year-over-year, and other food trends that emerged included non-alcoholic bars, floral-infused food and drinks, Nashville hot chicken, cauliflower mashed potatoes and pizza, pineapple buns and Korean barbecue.


On beauty, Lewis wrote, “On Yelp, we’re seeing a focus on preventative anti-aging procedures...
