Wordy Facebook App is Gaming Glory

So another word game has caught my eye, and my heart. Wordy has stolen the last hour of my life away from me, but I’m not even mad. This new game is available as a Facebook application, and one of the reasons it’s so appealing to me is because it has several game modes that encompass multiple word games into one app. There are tons of ranking options and multiplayer games, so the fun just never ends.

Some of the game options includes the Normal mode, which is a lot like Text Twist in that you are given several letters and you have to guess the 7-letter word in order to move up to the next round. Any other words you guess are just there to give you extra points. Letter Linker is a little bit like Zynga’s Scramble, which requires you to create words by connecting letters in a given puzzle. Other modes include Word Twist, Sprint, and Word Sword.

There are several social components to Wordy games as well, which merely ups the ante for addicts like myself. Wordy has a unique rating system that works for single player modes and multiplayer modes. There are also live game challenges and leaderboards for you to check out.

The result is a series of word games that remind me a lot of Yahoo Games, in that a number of games are available for play in a central location. In Wordy’s case, these are all accessible through a single application, leveraging Facebook friends and other players for the social components of its gaming capacity.
But will we ever see any cross-app integration for things like leaderboards or social networking? The developers behind these game applications often build their own networks by which they can create a seamless experience on other site platforms or devices such as the iPhone. This has become all the more evident now that Facebook supports Apple’s platform and the cross-device experience is even more socially integrated. Time will tell if platforms such as Facebook can take things a step further in enabling cross-app integration as well, which could be quite beneficial for the gaming community.
