With President Trump and Congressional Republicans intent on bringing their years-long quest to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act into fruition, we can be sure that the subject of health care, along with specifics like what and who the Republican health care bill will and won’t cover, will be part of the national dialogue for some time.
Daily newsletter coverage will likely do well in this context, and the The Washington Post and the Washington Examiner hit into a bit of serendipitous timing on that front, with each publication announcing today the debut of a health care-focused newsletter.
The Post’s newsletter, called The Health 202, is out today, and is the first of a previously announced expansion of newsletter offerings from PowerPost, which also includes flagship The Daily 202.
Health policy reporter Paige Winfield Cunningham is the author of the newsletter that is a mix of analysis, original reporting and aggregated items on health care policy from within and outside the Post, as well as a multi visual look into the parts of the debate making it into the social media sphere.
Interestingly, Cunningham was hired by the Post in March to head up the newsletter, and her previous employer, The Examiner, will be debuting their own health care newsletter tomorrow.
Called Daily On Healthcare (DOH), it will be headed up by managing editor Philip Klein, with assistance from senior healthcare writer Kimberly Leonard and healthcare reporter Robert King. Klein has long written on health care, and is the author of Overcoming Obamacare: Three Approaches to Reversing the Government Takeover of Health Care.
The newsletter, which will hit midday, will look at both the politics and policy aspects of healthcare in a mix of analysis and reporting.
