Sexual Harassment Suit at KPFK--Daniel Hernandez in the Weekly

In the LA Weekly, Daniel Hernandez tackles another controversial story head-on. The black, gay, immigrant general manager of KPFK is being sued for sexual harassment by her white, straight news director.

The Radio Pacifica staff had expressed dismay at the management style of GM Eve Georgia back in 2002, and letters and articles about Georgia’s previous positions circulated around the internet.

News director Molly Paige, who’s been at the station since 2005, alleges that she was subject to Georgia’s sexual advances, and when she complained, Georgia retaliated. The listener-supported network spent $255,000 battling another sexual harrassment case in Berkeley.

KPFK has a petition to establish a just review process here.

Hernandez doesn’t try to soft-pedal the unpleasantness of the situation, nor does he shy away from the racial and gender politics. Just an idle thought–how different would this piece be if he was still at the LA Times?
