Patch Dying? Then Why Is It Hiring?

AOL's struggling property wants you

AOL is pushing back against rumors of Patch’s imminent shutdown, so much so that it seems to still be hiring aggressively for a property that is slated to close.

In fact, Patch is actively recruiting on sites like Mediabistro.

The hyperlocal venture is CEO Tim Armstrong’s darling, but investors think it’s a money pit. Patch has failed to live up to its promise as the answer to local advertising and news gathering, and in the past year almost half the staff was laid off—400 people.

Yet, from the online job search category, the company is hiring, and says the Patch team is having loads of “fun.”
