Emerging popular Android apps: Monster Park, Songify and Rebuild

This week’s paid Android app charts were heavily influenced by the Because We May sale. The mass discount movement, which was designed draw attention to the importance of price control rights for independent developers, helped push Lazy 8 Studios’ title Cogs and Sarah Northway’s Rebuild into the top 50 of the charts this week after a massive influx of new sales. This week’s top grossing Android apps Rage of Bahamut - Rage of Bahamut once again claims the top grossing spot for our Android roundup, coming in at No. 1 for the sixth week in a row. The Mobage game has now been downloaded over 500,000 times and shows no signs of slowing down. If the game’s popularity continues on Android and iOS (where it is currently the No. 26 top grossing app, and climbing), it will soon be more popular in North America than Japan, where it has over 1 million players. Smurfs Village - Capcom’s hit social game Smurfs Village surges back up the Android charts to No. 10. The game was last updated on May 24 with new Smurf Hut customization options and two new smurf characters to collect. Monster Park - Kiwi’s brand-new Monster Park gets off to a flying start on the Android top grossing charts this week, making its debut at No. 11. The game is an animal care and collection game with a monster theme, requiring users to collect and breed monsters together to complete their collections. Grand Theft Auto 3 - Rockstar Games' paid title Grand Theft Auto 3 continues to be more popular on Android than on iOS, reaching No. 22 on the top grossing apps chart this week. The $4.99 game has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. Mass Effect Infiltrator - While it may have been released long after the now controversial Mass Effect 3, fan reaction to the ending of EA’s Mass Effect trilogy hasn’t seemed to have dampened enthusiasm for its mobile tie-in on Android. The game $6.99 game is currently the No. 23 top grossing app. This week’s top free Android apps Facebook for Android - It may not get the same amount of press as DeNA’s breakout hit Rage of Bahamut, but Facebook’s official app is also a juggernaut on the Android app charts. The social networking utility is this week’s No. 1 free app again and hasn’t left the top 10 Android charts all year. Color Splash FX - Moving all the way down to No. 20 we find independent developer Androidslide and its app, Color Splash FX. The free photo editing tool allows users to selectively add color or black and white areas to their photos. The app has been downloaded more than 1 million times. Google Play Music - Google’s official cloud storage music app hits No. 25 on the free app charts this week. The app was last updated on March 6. Logos Quiz - The popularity of independent developer J-roen’s app Logo Quiz has inspired a copycat. This week’s No. 45 free app is the similarly named Logos Quiz, developed by Carlos Alcarria. The app has already been downloaded more than 1 million times. Songify - Smule’s new-to-Android app Songify closes our our free Android chart in the No. 46 spot. The app allows users to speak into their smartphone or Android device and have the app autotune their voice into something resembling music. This week’s top paid Android Apps ZombieSmash - Zynga reaches No. 16 on the paid Android charts with its $0.99 game Zombie Smash. The “survival comedy” game challenges player to defend the last human survivor of the zombie apocalypse by flicking and smashing zombies using touch controls. Fruit Ninja - Halfbricks’s oddly priced Fruit Ninja snags the No. 18 spot on the paid app charts this week. The app, which costs $1.22, was last updated on March 23. Cogs - Independent developer Lazy 8 Studios shows up at No. 37 in our weekly roundup with its game Cogs. The game, which is on sale for $0.99 as part of the Because We May sales event, challenges players to build increasingly complex 2D and 3D machines made of cogs to solve puzzles. Sprinkle - Mediocre Game’s Sprinkle hits No. 46 on the paid app charts this week after going on sale for $0.99. The game was last updated on Jan. 27. Rebuild - Sarah Northway’s independent strategy game Rebuild is another paid title seeing a big boost from the Because We May sale, dropping down to $0.99 and up to No. 47 on the paid Android charts this week. The turn-based strategy game challenges players to rebuild a city after the apocalypse. The game has five difficulty levels and seven different endings to discover.
