NBA Star Fined $50,000 For A Direct Message On Twitter
We’ve heard before about NBA and other sports stars being fined for bad behavior on Twitter, but this is a first: Amar’e Stoudemire has been fined $50,000 for something he sent in a private direct message to a fan.
A fan of Stoudemire forwarded a DM they received from the basketball star to Deadspin, which published the DM over the weekend. The DM contained a homophobic slur towards the fan (or, perhaps more appropriately, troll).
Once published, it didn’t take long for the DM to be seen by the NBA – and by Stoudemire himself.
