The First Twitter Communities Are Set to Go Live

Communities, Twitter’s answer to Facebook groups, officially debut Wednesday after being introduced during the company’s Analyst Day in February.

Twitter users can be invited to join Communities starting Wednesday, and the first five will appear on the application and their profiles as a place to tweet about interests separate from the public timeline.

Staff product manager David Regan explained in a blog post Wednesday, “While you can tweet only to your Community for a focused conversation, Community pages and timelines are publicly available so anyone can read, quote tweet and report Community tweets.
