Snap Inc. is bringing the buddy system from the camp swimming pool to Snap Map.

Snapchatters can now opt to share their real-time location with a specific friend, for a time period that they choose, so that, for example, that friend knows they are safe while en route to meet them or on their way home.

The feature only works with individual friends, meaning that users cannot share their real-time location with their entire friends list on Snapchat.

Both parties using the feature must be friends on Snapchat, and when it is used for the first time, the application will share a reminder that it is meant to be used with close friends and family.
