Reddit revealed Thursday that it has acquired software-as-a-service-based artificial intelligence platform Spell with the goal of bolstering its machine language capabilities and improving the speed and relevancy of its platform.

Reddit explained in a blog post Thursday, “Reddit’s mission is to bring community, belonging and empowerment to everyone in the world, and one of the ways we do this is by connecting people to the topics, interests and passions they care about the most. Machine learning and AI are important tools that help us make these connections faster and more relevant to people.”
