The pandemic fueled the explosive growth in virtual events, and they aren’t fading into the background anytime soon, so LinkedIn began beta-testing an overhauled interactive events experience that includes audio and video options.

The professional network said creation of virtual live events on its platform is up 150% year over year, with attendees for those events up 231% over the same time period.

Director of product Jake Poses said in a blog post Thursday, “We believe there’s a massive opportunity to help our 800 million-plus members worldwide create even more meaningful connections with each other by reimagining virtual events for professionals.”

Beta-testing will kick off this month with LinkedIn’s take on Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces, Audio Events, involving “a few thousand” creators who will host them, covering various topics and themes, with any member of the professional network able to tune in and participate.
