WhatsApp added a new layer of security for people who use the Meta-owned messaging application via the web, introducing a web browser extension, Code Verify, which ensures that the code running the user’s WhatsApp Web has not been tampered with by hackers, overreaching governments or others.

Code Verify is available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, with Firefox to follow soon.

Software engineer Richard Hansen and product manager, cross-family Vincente Silveira explained in a blog post, “Since WhatsApp introduced multi-device capability last year, we’ve seen an increase in people accessing WhatsApp directly through their web browser via WhatsApp Web.
