Yahoo Adds New Series as Pitaro Rumor Hits

Yahoo has announced the launch of two new original Web series, just as its vp of media Jimmy Pitaro–the man who helped revitalize the portal’s content strategy over the past several years—looks to be headed for the door.

According to, Pitaro is planning to leave Yahoo shortly—though his is destination is unknown. During his tenure, Pitaro oversaw Yahoo’s biggest properties, including Yahoo Sports, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance and others. Plus, under his leadership the Web giant rolled out a handful of highly successful series, including Who Knew? and Primetime in No Time, while expanding the number of professional journalists it employs.

Yahoo officials declined to comment.

While Pitaro’s loss would be a tough blow to Yahoo, the company continues to expand its content purveiw with an eye towards landing big brand dollars. One soon to launch project is Ready. Set. Dance! A branded entertainment vehicle produced by Electus, the division of IAC helmed by former NBC president Ben Silverman.

That show, sponsored by State Farm, features two people being asked to perform impromptu dances whereever they are, as they compete for a cash prize: 12 episodes are scheduled.

Also on the docket is the political-news themed The Fast Fix. That show, produced in conjunction with The Washington Post, features reporter Chris Cillizza delivering analysis in just 60 seconds snippets. The Fast Fix is available on both Yahoo News and
