Will You Carry Your iPad Around?

Two recent reviews of forthcoming iPad cases express opposing views on whether the iPad is a portable device. This raises questions about its usefulness as an eReader–if it’s less portable than, say, a heavy old print book…

In a post about the deluxe leather cases coming from Vaja, Mike Schramm of TUAW says “the iPad’s use chart looks a little different — it doesn’t necessarily seem like the kind of device you’ll be pulling out while walking around, and you probably don’t need a great leather case if you’re just going to use it as a satellite computer around your home (not that anyone knows for sure how they’re going to use their iPad yet.”

But, elsewhere, there was a post or a comment (which this humble blogger can no longer find) about the Apple-branded iPad case, in which the post-er mentioned wanting the case because it would be easy to slip on and off the iPad, because it’s the kind of device that will go with you everywhere.

So, here’s the iPad question of the day: do you envision the iPad as a portable, always-with-you device, on which you’ll keep the novel you’re currently reading? Or is this a gadget for around the house? Comment below…
