Will Google Instant Search Turn Smartphones into Unresponsive Bricks?

Here’s an example of a new Google search feature that’s generating a bit of excitement that may, in the end, cause smartphones everywhere to crawl to a halt.

Google announces Google Instant search, available now for desktop, mobile this fall

Google’s current search on both the desktop and mobile screens provides word/phrase completion suggestions. This feature can grind my Android phones to a crawl right now. So, imagine what Google’s Instant Search results might do to the same phone as it second guesses you even after typing a single character. Current generation mobile devices may come to a complete stop and appear unresponsive to its user. I have a bad feeling about this feature on mobile devices and hope Google provides an option to turn it off for performance purposes.
