Weather Channel Looks for Customers to ‘Scan’ App

The Weather Channel is looking to entice its viewers to start waving their cell phones at their TVs.

The network has launched an innovative new way to distribute its popular application built for Google’s burgeoning Android mobile plaform. Viewers who own an Android-powered mobile device can now instantly download the new app by scanning a barcode that will appear periodically on their TV screens.

Weather will feature the barcode at the 20-minute mark of the shows Day Planner, PM Edition and WeatherCenter. Weather junkies can also retrive the app on the Web by scanning a similar bar code on and on several other sites.
