The popular U.K. sports show "Scoreboard" now offers video excerpts on its Facebook page that fans can comment on.

The popular U.K. sports show “Scoreboard” now offers video excerpts on its Facebook page that fans can comment on.

Scoreboard” viewers can choose from a dozen existing shows, each of which features banter about the strengths and weaknesses of two U.K. football teams. Each Friday night, the app will feature a show live in progress that will allow users to make commentary with each other about the show and what is being said, creating a meta-effect of commentary between both on-air pundits and their armchair counterparts at home.

The app also includes a game where users can make predictions, places bets about with in-game currency, track progress, post comments and interact with other users and even win virtual trophies, according to blogger Sara Ines Calderon.

While some of the existing content such as baseball games and movies are available elsewhere on the web and on television channels, shows such as “Scoreboard” are being developed exclusively for Facebook. For key players in the marketplace, a static fan page may no longer suffice for a viable presence on the social network, spawning all kinds of new entertainment possibilities on the social network.

The past month has seen a bevy of announcements about video content on Facebook. There might be some kind of snowball effect as businesses begin to see the competitive need to add streaming content to their social media pages.
