Twitter’s Dark Mode Gets Darker and Automatic for Its iOS Users

The new Lights Out theme uses a pure black color palette

Dark mode is now even darker for Twitter’s iOS users, and they can now set their applications to change over automatically based on their time zones.

Until Thursday, Twitter iOS users could choose between Light, the default Twitter display, and Dim, the blue-gray dark mode the social network introduced in August 2016 to help reduce eye strain in low lit environments.

Starting Thursday, Lights Out—a pure black color palette that emits no lights, because pixels are turned off, and not only helps with eye strain, but may also prolong battery life—is an option for iOS users.

And the social network added an Automatic Dark Mode setting that switches its iOS app from Light to either Dim or Lights Out based on users’ time zones, eliminating the need for people to change the settings themselves.
