Twitter Goes Nuts Over Tupac Hologram

Twitter has been going Tupac crazy, the likes of which haven’t been seen since his last “sighting” (with Elvis) thanks to a super-realistic hologram and some performers with VERY deep pockets.

The Coachella Music Festival is an “annual three-day music and arts festival, organized by Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Live) and held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley.” This year it is being held over two weekends, with the first taking place April 13-15 and the second from April 20-22. Though wildly popular, they’ll be hard-pressed to repeat the buzz generated around this past weekend’s performance.

Dr. Dre wanted to bring Tupac back to life and the result was wildly successful – and expensive. MTV News reports that it cost anywhere from $100-400k to create the spooktacular appearance.

It was SO realistic, in fact, that it seems to have not only fooled some fans, but refueled the belief of some fans that Tupac isn’t dead.

And others? Well, they think the hologram should go on tour.

And maybe that isn’t a half-bad idea, actually – taking the hologram on the tour circuit. Could it be any worse than rock stars who regularly lip sync? At least we would know it was a canned performance. Not like Ashley Simpon’s cringe-worthy lip syncing screw up on Saturday Night Live. Eesh.

Anyway, here’s the video of Tupac’s performance. You tell us if you think it’s realistic or not. (Offensive language warning!):

Didn’t we tell you? Now who do you think will be the first singer to offer (or get caught pawning off) a holographic performance? It’s coming, no doubt – wait and see!
