Steven Holl Likes China. Oh, And Tibet.


We very unfortunately missed Steven Holl‘s lecture, “Urbanisms,” but that was probably because it was Columbia and that’s really far away. But we, of course, had a mole there. Even if it was a retroactive tipster. Who reports that the talk was going nicely and it was all right, perhaps not as good as it could have been if Steven had just shown pretty pictures of buildings, but he had his five sections–“Fragments, Porosity, Insertions, Precincts and Fusion”–and was generally rocking it and discussing his new work in China. And how he likes working there. And how it’s making his architecture cool. Again, that’s China. And then, allegedly, he says something to the effect of

I want to use color and I’m looking at Tibetan temples for color…
