SportingNews.com Relaunches as Sporting News Feed

SportingNews.com is now Sporting News Feed, as the 124-year-old title relaunched its Web presence with an exclusive focus on breaking news and trending topics in the seven core sports it covers: Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, NCAA basketball and football, and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Sporting News Feed will enhance its breaking news coverage with original reporting, real-time video produced in partnership with CineSport, and curated recommendations from across the Internet. The revamped site will incorporate integration with Facebook, including Like buttons and activity feed plug-ins, as well as interaction with Twitter, Yahoo! Buzz, and Rowdy.com. Sporting News also reached an agreement with Yahoo! Sports giving the latter the exclusive rights to nationally distribute Sporting News Feed content. In addition, digital-aggregation company PublishThis created a custom tool that will allow Sporting News editors to package related sports links with their content. Sporting News Feed managing editor Benson Taylor said: Sporting News Feed will deliver avid sports fans the most comprehensive destination in the United States to follow the biggest sports stories of the day in our seven core sports. Our reporters and editors will do the heavy lifting for fans, providing context around these stories through our original reporting and curating recommendations to the best related content from across the Web, including our competitors. Sporting News president and publisher Jeff Price added: Our goal in relaunching SportingNews.com and creating Sporting News Feed is to change the way avid fans follow breaking stories. We're re-emphasizing the "news" in Sporting News in a real-time, multimedia approach. We're also looking forward to working with CineSport, extending our sales relationship with its industry-leading sports-video-syndication network to deliver unique video-advertising solutions on Sporting News Feed. When sports fans and advertisers think about what we're doing, it is essentially an ESPNEWS 2.0 offering on the Web for avid fans. And Justin Osofsky, who leads media partnerships for Facebook, said: By integrating with Facebook social plug-ins, Sporting News is providing sports enthusiasts with a customized experience and real-time updates on the latest news in sports. Whether watching with friends or wearing your team jersey, sports have always been inherently social. By building with Facebook, now Sporting News is now bringing that social context to its Web site.
