SongPop and Bubble Island this week’s gainer and loser among July’s Top 25 Facebook games

The July Top 25 Facebook games list has had a week to air out, which means it’s time to start looking at the traffic patterns of the games that appeared therein.

Starting at No. 25 on the list and counting down, we’re examining the behavior of six or seven games each week based on a title’s daily active users — the best way to measure an app’s core audience. Looking at the traffic patterns, we predict how a game’s position might change on the next month’s Top 25 list.

For the first week of June, we’ll examine No. 25 through No. 20

25. Pyramid Solitaire Saga

King.com’s latest “Saga” title, Pyramid Solitaire Saga, continues the series’ winning streak on Facebook, debuting on the Top 25 list in the No. 25 spot. The game’s up from 1.3 million DAU to 1.5 million, the fastest growth it’s seen in a while. Although the game was the fifth “Saga” game to hit 1 million DAU in early June, its gains slowed down shortly after that and seemed to be hovering between 1.1 and 1.2 million until the final week of the month. If Pyramid Solitaire Saga’s growth continues at this rate, it could have over 2 million DAU in time for August’s Top 25 games list, which would probably place the game around the No. 15 spot next month.

24. Top Eleven — Be a Football Manager

Nordeus’s soccer sim Top Eleven – Be a Football manager is up from 1.4 million DAU to 1.5 million. Top Eleven is one of those games that’s seen steady growth since it launched in May 2010 and peaked at 1.5 million last month. The growth has been slowing over the past few months, and Top Eleven’s gains have been slower than normal since January, often taking over a month before a significant traffic boost hits. Surprisingly, the game didn’t receive a noticeable boost from Eurocup, which ran through the end of June through the beginning of July. Even if the game does move up to 1.6 million DAU, it’s possible that it may fall off next month’s Top 25 games list simply because the minimum traffic numbers may surpass that amount.

T 22. Bubble Island

After some small drops, Wooga’s Bubble Island is back at 1.5 million DAU. Last month, the 2010 game looked like it might start to recover traffic and possibly move back past the 2 million DAU mark, but the numbers dropped steadily over the month before leveling out at 1.5 million. It doesn’t seem likely that Bubble Island will make any significant traffic gains this month, and it’s very possible the game will fall off August’s Top 25 list entirely if it keeps losing traffic.

T 22. Marvel: Avengers Alliance

Playdom’s Marvel: Avengers Alliance is down, from 1.5 million DAU to 1.4 million. The game greatly benefitted from Disney’s cross-marketing campaign for The Avengers film, which hit theaters and broke records in early May. Now that the film’s mostly gone from movie houses, the numbers are starting to drop (in spite of recent content tied to The Amazing Spider-Man) from its June peak of 1.6 million DAU. If traffic continues to fall, Marvel: Avengers Alliance may find itself back at the bottom of the next month’s list.

21. Lost Bubble

After a meteoric rise up the charts over the past two months, Peak Games’s Lost Bubble seems to have leveled out. Since peaking at 1.8 million last month, the game’s generally been holding steady at 1.7 million. Lost Bubble’s proven a major hit for Peak Games, managing to succeed in the crowded bubble shooter genre on Facebook. It’s hard to predict what the next month of traffic will be like, though, since the game’s only been on the social network for two months. If the traffic doesn’t start to gain again, Lost Bubble may actually fall a couple of spots on next month’s Top 25 chart.

20. SongPop

FreshPlanet’s SongPop is continues to grow by leaps and bounds, growing from 1.8 million DAU to 2.3 million. Since it launched in May, the game’s quickly become popular among Facebook users and is likely received a strong boost from Mark Zuckerberg being one of the game’s players. Looking at this traffic pattern, it looks like SongPop won’t slow down any time soon and will probably be closer to the top ten games on next month’s list.
