New Social Search Remembers Who Said What...So We Don't Have To

Google may still be king, but new personal search engine Sentimnt might become the most convenient way to find information in the future. The service is still in the private beta stage -- but its ability to search through your social media accounts to find tidbits that relate specifically to your life is something to get excited about in advance. Sentimnt works by combing through places like your Twitter, GMail, Facebook, Google Reader and Delicious accounts to find what you are looking for. The search engine's hook is that, unlike Google, extraneous hits from all corners of the Web don't show up when you are trying to recall something you once read. For example, if you are trying to remember an article that you know you skimmed or a restaurant recommendation you know a friend gave you at some point, Sentimnt helps you out by going back through your online information sources. Sentimnt uses the GoGrid cloud to store your data, an infrastructure the company claims is particularly secure. Sentimnt promises that none of its users' data is analyzed or distributed; they also erase all user data after you delete your Sentimnt account. Another exciting feature that the London-based start-up pledges? The ability to add more web sites to its list of search sources. That way, users can expect a more customized, reliable searching service as Sentimnt develops. Right now, you can test Sentimnt out by requesting an invitation to sign up for the free beta version. Eventually, three plans will be available to the public: basic, plus and premium. Basic is free, and plus and premium will be $1 and $5 a month, respectively. University students have the added bonus of accessing the "plus" version at no cost. At the very least, Sentimnt seems to have more value than search engines like BlogCatalog, which only targets bloggers. Computers are already electronic brains of sorts. Sentimnt seems positioned to capitalize on that concept: It'll rack your social media brain while you sit back and relax.
