Social reading service Flipboard is the latest U.S. social network to go down the route of video advertising, following the path of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (soon) and others. Speaking at Read Write’s ReadWriteMix event, Flipboard founder and CEO Mike McCue announced that the company will introduce the ad format from next month. Mashable The first video advertiser on the platform will be Chanel, with more advertisers to come later. “We are continuously enhancing our full page ad units so they are engaging, fast and complimentary to the Flipboard reading experience,” Christine Cook, head of revenue at Flipboard, told Mashable in a statement. ReadWrite There is already a lot of video on Flipboard, so people may be accustomed to watching them as they scroll through their digital magazine. But this is the first time the company will be presenting them as ads. IBT The company now uses existing static, full-page ads that comprise roughly one of every 10 pages on the app, McCue has said. The Next Web noted that it’ll be interesting to see how video changes the company’s engagement rate.
