1 In 5 Tech Firms Have Rejected A Candidate Due To Their Social Media Profile [INFOGRAPHIC]

Are you on Twitter? What about Facebook, LinkedIn or YouTube?

Are you looking for a new job?

Well, it’s never been more important to ensure that your social presence is above-board and fully accountable, as a new survey has revealed that some 20 percent of technology executives have rejected a candidate’s job application due to their social media profile.

The study also observed that LinkedIn was the social platform of choice amongst job applicants, with 74 percent using that channel, ahead of Twitter (67 percent) and Facebook (64 percent).

Bottom line? Social media can be a lot of fun and nobody expects you to be whiter than white, but, much like (and largely thanks to) the seemingly humble retweet, the things you say and the way you behave do have a potentially enormous ripple effect, and it’s one that can very, very easily bleed into and do irreparable damage to your ‘real life’, too.
