Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel Offering a Gadget-free Stay: Zen and the Art of Detox

How often do you check your phone, tablet or notebook computer for email, Facebook status updates, Twitter tweets, Foursquare check-ings and Google+ streams in the course of an hour? A morning? A day? How about an entire weekend? Perhaps after thinking about your overconnectedness you might want unplug and “get away from it all.” If so, The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel has a deal for you called Zen and the Art of Detox.

At Pittsburgh hotel, guests surrender digital devices upon check-in (Springwise.com)

The idea of this package is to leave the electronic world behind. Upon check-in (an actual hotel front desk check-in not a Foursquare check-in), you are asked to turn over your notebook, tablet, smartphone and any other electronics you might be carrying. It doesn’t stop there, however. Once you enter your hotel room, you’ll find that it does not have a TV, telephone (wired) or iHome iPod/iPhone docking station normally found in these rooms. Instead, you will find a selection of paper books.

I don’t think I could do this. But, if you can, the hotel’s promotion runs through September 25. Room rates are between $199 and $399 per night.
