Rayquaza and More New Pokemon Are Coming to Pokemon Go

Dragon- and Flying-type creatures will be added soon

Pokemon Go players will be able to welcome Rayquaza starting Feb. 9

Niantic revealed the next Legendary Pokemon scheduled for release in Pokemon Go: Rayquaza.

Originally found in the Hoenn region of the Pokemon universe, Rayquaza will be available to capture in Raid Battles around the world from Feb. 9 through March 16.

In addition, Niantic said additional Dragon- and Flying-type Pokemon from the Hoenn region will begin appearing in the game Feb. 9. With the release of these new Pokemon, the game will contain more than 100 Pokemon from the Hoenn region.

To celebrate this milestone, Niantic launched a limited-time in-game event causing every wild Pokemon players encounter to be one from the Hoenn region. This event will run until Feb. 13. In addition, as part of this event, Niantic said players may encounter “different” Pokemon in Raid Battles near them, as well as hatch different Pokemon from eggs.

Finally, until Feb. 23, players will be able to purchase special boxes in the game’s store containing Raid Passes, Incubators and Star Pieces. Plus, all Lure Modules activated until Feb. 23 will remain active for six hours, rather than the default 30 minutes.

Pokemon Go is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game has been downloaded more than 750 million times, and it has driven more than 500 million visits to sponsored locations since its launch in July 2016.

Last year, Niantic partnered with Wieden + Kennedy London to launch an advertising campaign for Pokemon Go. The campaign saw billboards containing gameplay stats appear in New York, London and Tokyo, with some of these billboards being activated as in-game PokeStops.
