Earlier this month, Niantic challenged Pokemon Go players to capture 3 billion Pokemon during the game’s first Global Catch Challenge, which ended Nov. 26. Players successfully reached this milestone, resulting in the appearance of Farfetch’d around the world for 48 hours.
Now, Niantic released an additional Pokemon in the game to celebrate players’ efforts. Until Dec. 12, players will have the chance to capture legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh in Raid Battles at Gyms around the world.
Speaking of Raid Battles, Niantic recently updated the rewards players receive from these special battles. A full breakdown of the changes is available here.
Pokemon Go is available to download for free on iOS and Android. The game has been downloaded more than 750 million times, and it’s driven more than 500 million visits to sponsored locations since its launch in July 2016.
Earlier this year, Niantic partnered with Wieden + Kennedy London to launch an advertising campaign for Pokemon Go, which saw billboards containing gameplay stats appear in New York, London and Tokyo. Some of these billboards were activated as in-game PokeStops.
