NYTimes.com Pay Wall Enters Phase Two

The New York Times Co. CEO Janet Robinson updated plans for the pay wall for NYTimes.com and discussed the newspaper’s iPhone app during the company’s second-quarter earnings call, as reported by paidContent.
Robinson said the pay wall is entering phase two, saying, “We have transitioned from the requirements phase into active development mode, building the systems and infrastructure to support the commerce, customer-service and production requirements of our cross-platform strategy,” and adding that pricing will be announced as the launch date approaches, likely in early 2011, according to paidContent.
She also said the Times‘ iPad app has been downloaded 4.5 million times over the past two years, adding that the company’s mobile sites and apps generated some 106 million page views in June alone.
