Not Quite a Blow to Mankind, but a Vermont Ski Resort is Replacing Its Single-Chair Lift

It’s difficult for an urbanista to fathom: but hardy Vermont skiers can have an entire trail to themselves on a Christmas weekend. Such is one of the blessings of a diesel-powered, single-chair lift of Mad River Glen’s single-chair lift in Waitsfield, Vt. It limits the number of people on the mountain top. Even so hardy Vermonters are willing to wait 30 minutes to get on top of the mountain. Alas the 59-year-old lift which deposits approximately 500 ski aficionados an hour on the prettiest slopes on the East Coast needs to be replaced.
