Meanwhile, the National Football League remained atop the sports category, led by the Dallas Cowboys.

The AMAs on ABC were responsible for 3.426 million total interactions across Facebook and Twitter, easily outdistancing the 17th Annual Latin Grammy Awards on Univision and Fox’s Empire, at 892,000 and 731,000, respectively.

And NFL games accounted for eight of the top 10 sports events for the week in terms of total interactions, led by the Cowboys’ victory over the visiting Baltimore Ravens, at 18.178 million.

The only non-NFL events in the top 10 were the NASCAR Ford EcoBoost 400 at No. 4 and the college football clash between the University of Florida and Louisiana State University at No. 8.
